A visit to a market is an essential part of any holiday in the Dordogne. amongst the charming streets and squares, you’ll discover local cheeses, nuts, foie gras, truffles, cured meats, vegetables, regional produce and artisanal specialities. It’s the perfect way to experience the authentic atmosphere and flavours of the Périgord.

🌙 Summer evening markets

During the summer months, there are also a number of lively evening markets. A lovely way to spend the warm summer evenings, sample local specialities and enjoy the music and a convivial atmosphere.

Thursday evening: Sarlat-la-Canéda – a lively evening market in the historic centre.

Friday evening: La Roque-Gageac – an atmospheric evening market on the banks of the Dordogne.

Saturday evening: in July and August, various villages organise local evening markets and ‘marchés gourmands’.

Our tip: go on an empty stomach! At many evening markets, you’ll find ‘marchés gourmands’ where local producers offer their specialities. Find a spot at a long table, sample various regional dishes and enjoy a real summer evening in the Périgord with family or friends.
